As our co-founder, the education experts at the University of Helsinki are part of our ongoing work to research, develop and implement the Finnish approach to early education.
Children learn through purposeful play, guided experiences and support from highly trained teachers, with learning becoming increasingly structured as they grow.
This helps children build strong foundations in early literacy and numeracy alongside concentration, independence, communication and confidence, preparing them for the transition to primary school while continuing to nurture their curiosity and love of learning.

HEI Schools is founded in partnership with the University of Helsinki
HEI Schools is based on research from the University of Helsinki, one of the world’s leading institutions in education. Our approach reflects the Finnish education system globally recognised for its focus on wellbeing, equity, and how children truly learn. The Finnish model has been rigorously tested for decades with outstanding learning results. It combines the best and latest learning philosophies, models, and practices to meet the highest standards in education. At HEI Schools, we adapt its holistic approach, emphasizing on a child’s perspective without compromising academic results.
As our co-founder, the education experts at the University of Helsinki are a part of our daily working team. Together, we constantly strive to research, plan, and innovate for a successful implementation of the Finnish early education system. This is done through a carefully designed plan by providing purposeful play, nurturing guidance from highly-trained teachers, as well as the opportunity to adopt learning as a natural process shaped by one’s interests, all in due time. In this way, learning can happen everywhere, all the time.
Professor Lasse Lipponen
Professor Lasse Lipponen is a leading expert in early childhood education and a Professor at the University of Helsinki. His work focuses on play-based learning, child development, and Finnish early childhood education, with over 180 scientific publications to his name. With extensive international experience, including collaborations in Singapore, he is a co-founder of HEI Schools, supporting high-quality, research-based preschool education worldwide.
Paula Hoppu
Paula Hoppu is a Pedagogical Manager at HEI Schools with a strong background in early childhood education. Her work focuses on educational leadership, children’s social and emotional development and quality practices in early years settings. With extensive international experience, she supports educator training and mentoring across the global HEI Schools network, including new centres in Singapore.
